Guidelines for Making this a Successful Party

My favorite part about owning my own business is that I only have to follow the rules I make up. So here are a few I made up to make this event the most fun holiday office party you’ve ever experienced!

1. Do be yourself. There’s no one to impress at this party because you’re the boss!
2. Don’t sit in the corner all night unless you’re on a hot streak sharing ideas with someone you meet at the party. 
3. Do brag about yourself and your accomplishments as much as you want to everyone you meet.
4. Do bring several entrepreneurial friends. What good is a celebration without the people who have helped you get where you are?
5. Don’t be afraid if secular holiday words slip out of your mouth (e.g. Reindeer, Snow).
6. Do spend as much time as you want talking business or personal. Successful entrepreneurs know both worlds are intertwined.
7. Do give as much as you receive by way of ideas, support and enthusiasm.
8. Do remember to outwardly thank at least one person throughout the evening for whatever support, encouragement, ideas or good karma they may give you.
9. Don’t dwell on your perceived failures from 2007 and decide not to come. If you are experiencing roadblocks, consider this event your much-needed detour.
10. Don’t pass up this party invitation. It could mean all the difference between a fabulous start for 2008 and one that’s just OK.
